Winter Dreams
Seductive Melodies

Borgström Violin Concerto G major, op. 25
Eldbjørg Hemsing | Violin
Artic Philharmonic Orchestra

Let yourself be seduced by beautiful melodies and winter dreams, as Eldbjørg Hemsing plays Borgstrøms violin concert, and the Arctic Philharmonic performs Tchaikovsky’s 1st symphony Winter Dreams.

Soloist Eldbjørg Hemsing has already received many awards for her violin playing, and certainly made a name for herself by performing for the Norwegian royal family at the National Theatre in Oslo as a six-year-old. At this concert, she will play Hjalmar Borgstrøm’s violin concerto in G major – a forgotten treasure that was premiered more than a century after it was composed. Borgstrøm (1864-1925) was a Norwegian composer who gained inspiration from the likes of Wagner and Beethoven. His notes from this composition were found by conductor Terje Boye Hansen, who forwarded them to Hemsing. She has now recorded this work with the Vienna Symphony, which is due for release in 2018. Hemsing describes the music as “virtuoso music, challenging to play but with unbelievably wonderful melodies”.

In addition to Borgstrøm’s violin concerto, the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra will play
Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 Winter Dreams, a work that has been described as seductive and one of the most important 19th century symphonies.
